AAM Engage the Community, Develops Creative Vision, Assists the Growth of Young People, and Paves the Way for Building a Better Community

“Go to School” is a community project launched by the Architects Association of Macau (AAM) in 2022, collaborate with secondary school in Macao and with the aim of assisting growth of young people, especially around their future career planning.

“Go to School” project is comprised of three parts, the 1st part is the introduction of architecture, the 2nd part is an architectural interactive workshop, and the 3rd part is the “Shadow Program”.  The introduction of architecture is a sharing session lead by the representatives of the AAM board of directors, through which topics around what is architecture, what architects work, who suits for studying and entering the architect industry are shared;  the architectural interactive workshop is led by a mentor team composed of AAM board directors and members of the association, taking a real site as a model,  the mentor team guide the small students groups to design buildings on the site, and using environmentally friendly materials to build the buildings according to the design;  while “Shadow Program” is the last part of this community project, in which student participants will be assigned to an architectural firm for a week, to observe and experience the operation of daily architectural practice.

This year, AAM continue the “Go to School” community project,  and with funding granted by the Macau Foundation. The number of schools participating in this project has increased from one in 2022 to three this year, including Matteo Ricci Secondary School, School of the Nations and Yuet Wah Secondary School; the AAM “Go to School” architect mentor team is growing with more young architects joining the team, while the number of architectural firms participating in the “Shadow Program” has also increased to 4, including JWCC Architecture Company Limited, Champion Peak Architectural Design Consulting Ltd.,  P&T Architects & Engineers Ltd (Macau Branch) and LBA Architecture and Planning Ltd., we all work together to promote this community project of assisting growth of local young people.

The members of the AAM “Go to School” architect mentor team include Ar. Choi Wan Sun, President of the AAM Board of Directors, Ar. Wu Kim Kam, Vice President of the AAM Board of Directors; Directors of the AAM Board of Directors and Supervisory Board including Ar. Lam Lap Yan, Ar. Jimmy Wardhana, Ar. Nuno Soares, Ar. Hong Kai Chong, Ar. Si Kun Hong and Ar. Chan Chong, members of our association including Ar. Choi Cheng I, Ar. Ma Chi Fai, Ar. Ng Sai Hung, Ar. Bruno Males, Chan Ka Leong, Ar. Leong Ian Tong, Ar. Chan Iat Wa and Ar. Diogo Vilas.
